Nokia’s bad second quarter results

The number of nokia smartphones and mobile phones that have been sold have seen a sharp decrease in numbers this second quarter and has made a large impact on their profits.

They sold 16.7 million units – a 30% drop year on year. This is also bad news as nokia were planning to release a windows phone 7 phone but with this decreasing in profits, they are struggling to make this happen.

This is because of nokia’s seemingly more outdated symbian opperating system and doesnt have the likes of android or iOS. If they want to get a decent footing on the smartphone market, they may need to make a move to android soon.

Even though at sometimes during the year there are a large increase in smartphone sales, i doubt it will be enough to boost up sales enough to bring back what they have lost. And windows phone 7 sales are not as big as android or iOS devices.

So it seems nokia may need to drop their propriatary OS and move to android or windows phone 7
