Pierre Cardin launches a……….tablet?

It seems that designers are now taking over the world of mobile technology. There has been Prada LG  phones for example, but now it seems that they are taking over the world of tablets. Pierre Cardin has now launched a tablet.

The specs are a 7 inch touchscreen, so is the same size as a blackberry playbook. There are no cameras on it, 3G is accesible only by a dongle, has 512mb of ram and is running android 2.2 froyo rather than 3.0 Honeycomb.

The Pierre Cardin tablet is supposed to be “perfectly sized to fit in the palm of your hand yet practical enough for life on the go”. However it is 1.4 cm thick. Which is a lot thicker than the ipad 2’s 8.8mm. Seems like they need to do some more work on it before it becomes a viable alternative to any tablet.

What’s going to be in the new xperia mini?

The follow up to last years x10 mini has been released now and here’s a quick overview of the device.

It now has a 1GHz processor compared to the 600mhz in the old one. It is running android 2.3 gingerbread too. It’s still going to use sonys timescape and mediascape skins because the device is too small really to run android without something over the top of it.

This is all I can find at the moment on it but hopefully will find out more soon.

05/08/2011: More specs of the xperia mini. its dimensions are 88 x 52 x 16 mm. the screen will be 320 x 480 pixels. It is a Quad band, touchscreen phone. It has a 5 MP camera. it will have 512 MB RAM and 320MB storage which will be expandable with a Micro SD card up to 32 GB.

Wii u details in 2012?

It has been said that the details of the wii u will not be released until 2012.

The demo model that was shown at E3 this year was in the very early stages of it being designed. We will see an actual wii u in 2012’s E3.

However to keep the Internet from leaking supposed wii u parts or body shells. This was shown to some people at a nintendo conference. At the moment I cannot find any photo’s or documents on these mock ups but hope to find some soon.

Bjork invites hackers to publish her biophillia app

As it seems that many hackers are being arrested and such for doing such illegal activities, it seems that bjork wants hackers to hack her app and take it to other devices that aren’t iOS.

This sounds like a good way to spread it, but it could easily backfire and is defiantly not the norm. I’d be interested to see how this develops.

Playstation vita. An overpriced ps3 controller?

A while after hearing about the release of the vita, we are hearing a bit more about it.

Now, it seems that the vita is going to be able to be used as a ps3 controller. As with the move, this seems like Sony is taking a leaf out of nintendo’s book…again. To me, it seems like they’re already trying to get a foot up on the wii u. But having to buy 2 consoles both over 200 pounds is a bit much.

So, is it going to be the same again with Sony and Microsoft taking nintendo’s ideas and improving them? Seems so, and seems pricey too.

05/08/2011: it has now been said that the playstation vita has been delayed in the us and europe launches and will probably not be out for the holiday season. however japan can expect a release for late in the year. also a definate price has been established now. The PlayStation Vita will cost $249 USD (£152 GBP)  for its Wi-Fi-only version and $299 USD (£182 GBP) for its mobile phone handset.

Google is reaching for the top!

It now seems that Google is having a go at most things nowadays with such things as Google Plus and the chrome notebooks. But now their web browser has become the second most favorite in the UK.

Google as toppled over 22% of users and has taken over firefox as the one of the most popular.

The main reasons is the amazing speed over other web browsers and it’s neatness to it and not having lots of toolbars like IE9 or FireFx

I am a user and have used all the bug browser names (opera, firefox, safari, IE9 and chrome) and I have found chrome to be the best.

Google is doing a great job at the moment!

What do you think of Chrome

(UPDATE: Brett’s Note: Opera and Chrome is the best to me!)

Samsung Overtakes Nokia’s Sales

It seems that things are just getting worse for phone giants nokia.

Samsung has now overtaken Nokia in smartphone sales. This is bad news for Nokia, it’s not the only thing that sanding carry, as they make a large variety of electronic products too.

Nokia isn’t doing so well because of their slightly outdated looks and a very outdated symbian operating system. If Nokia wants to dominate the mobile world, they may need to take a step to either Windows phone 7 or an Android OS very soon.

Google maps tells you when to get off the bus

Anyone in london knows how difficult it is to get around such a large congested city. Its even worse for someone who has never been there. But it seems that google maps can help you with that.

This is down to their new public transport addition to it. It not only lets you find out how long it will take, but where you should get off and such others etc. You can use it to plan bus, Tube, DLR and tram journeys. And if you have an Android phone, it’ll even tell you the location of the nearest Underground station or bus stop and, once you’re on your way, tell you when to get off.

This is a great addition to google maps and i would like to try it first hand. lets hope it doesn’t get lots of people who have come to see the olympics going to the wrong place!

iPod sales sinking fast

Apple may be setting record with their iPhone and iPad products, but the ipod is bringing in bad results. They sold a mere 7.5 million ipods last quarter. Unit sales have dropped 20%.

Why is this that the ipod is dropping down in sales? im a happy ipod owner and im sure a lot of you are. So, why the sudden decrease? There could be several reasons why.

Firstly, because they have either none or little moving parts in them,  they are getting broken less and so are keeping for longer, so people wont buy a new iPod until it breaks. Also, a lot of people allready own a smartphone of some sort and all their music is on there, so there is no need for a seperate music device like an ipod. It could also be the cost of them. A 2gb shuffle costs around £40 but if you want more memory, you may have to pay up to £130 or even more. if you want an ipod touch with a decent memory capacity, youre looking at about £250+. thats almost iphone teritory.

Its not like nobody wants one, they own almost 70% of the mp3 market. Its more down to apple being very good at what they make. we could see this change when iCloud is released where you can wirelessly push music to other devices, but right now, the iPod line is going to not bring much profit to the business.
